On occasion the diamond and cbn wheel surface has to be conditioned. The conditioning of Diamond and CBN can be divided up into the process of dressing, profiling and sharpening. Dressing a wheel is typically done when the bond type is that of vitrified, resin and hybrid.
Q: What are the advantages of CBN grinding wheels?
Aside from producing better-quality cutting edges, the use of CBN grinding wheels for a variety of hardened cutting tools can reduce your overall cost of grinding by 20-50%, depending on its applications. Since there is little conditioning involved, these machines require even less downtime for any wheel maintenance.
Q: What is the best grit for CBN wheels?
A: That depends on your style. If you reshape tools often or make some of your own tools on occasion, get the 80-grit wheel as your low grit wheel. If you don't do that type of grinding much, then get the 180 grit. For sharpening and touching up your tools we suggest the 350 or 600.
Q: Can CBN and diamond abrasives be used for wet grinding applications?

Wet grinding helps maintain lower temperatures during the grinding process, reduces dust and debris, and can extend the life of the abrasive tool. Q: Can you sharpen carbide on a CBN wheel?

To sum up, CBN and Carbide products vary considerably in quality/hardness With a good wheel and average carbide (which is usually the case) intermittent use it can be done, but physics with eventually catch up wear out the wheel.

So no more dust because your grinding stone must be made flat again! For most wood-turners, a CBN wheel will last a lifetime. The grain of CBN wheels is extremely suitable for grinding woodworking tools. The wheels are balanced so that the grinding machine can run beautifully stable.

Recommended wheel speeds for vitrified CBN applications is 60-120 mts/sec. However machines with wheel speed as low as 37mts/sec have shown good G-ratios and cycle times when tooled up with vitrified CBN wheels.
Q: Can you dress a CBN grinding wheel?
Select a dressing stick one or two grit sizes finer than the abrasive in the diamond or CBN wheel. We recommend a soft silicon carbide or aluminum oxide dressing stick a few steps finer to “open up” the wheel again.
Q: Can you sharpen carbon steel on a CBN wheel?
